Apparently, Renault ran a French language ad to introduce the Renault 5 minicar to the San Francisco market back in the 1970s. I suppose the ad agency was trying to promote the 5’s performance capabilities as the commercial has the little car passing semis going uphill, dodging streetcars, and cutting off what looks like police escorting an armored vehicle. They even have the 5 catching some big air on the city by the bay’s famous hilly streets, particularly in the second jump that they show. It looks like the car got 6 to 8 feet off of the ground.
My guess is that le car didn’t quite stick the landing since the commercial doesn’t show us an exterior shot of the result of that jump. Like the Dukes of Hazzard Chargers, they probably went through more than one car during the shoot.
Shades of Bullitt! And even though the commercial was shot in SF it wouldn’t have been to introduce the 5 to the US market because it was sold here as Le Car by American Motors.
Probably not. I wonder how it got enough speed to get any air!
My wife and I watched Smokey and the Bandit a few weeks ago and marveled that the Trans Am always came out looking beautiful after a stunt.
