Are the Democrats About to Get Dicked?
Blacks, Hispanics, and Finally Pivoting to the GOP. Will the Jews Join Them? That's What Schumer's Speech Was All About.
John Burn-Murdoch of the Financial Times posted a thread, viewed more than 7 million times on Twitter/X, showing substantial losses for Democrats among Latino and Black voters. He called it “racial realignment”. From 1960 to 2020, for sixty years, at least 75% of non-white voters have favored Democratic presidential candidates. Now, though, the trend lines for non-white voters are nearing a 50/50 Democrat/Republican split, a dramatic shift. Here is the graph that he used. What does it look like to you?
Yeah, I have a dirty mind.
With Pres. Biden’s approval ratings at 38%, lower than any incumbent president since I’ve been alive, Democrats are losing ground all over the place but they are going in reverse with Black and Latino voters faster than with any other demographic groups. Perhaps the old “Hispanics are culturally conservative” argument is finally playing out in the era of rainbow-haired teachers transing kids, and Black men are noticing how the “replacement theory” isn’t a conspiracy theory by white supremacists but rather a real world problem putting economic pressure on Blacks from below by illegal immigrants.
It remains to be seen what will happen with another key demographic group, American Jews, who traditionally vote about 85% Democratic. They’re about as reliable for the Dems as Blacks and college educated white women are, maybe more so. Jews also, it is said, donate about half of the money Democrats get from private donations. Also, while there are only about 6 million Jews in the U.S., they are concentrated in just a few places, enough to swing presidential elections in states like Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and even possibly Michigan. Those are a lot of key electoral votes.
The hard left flank of the Democratic party hates Israel, that is clear. Whether or not it also hates Jews is at least open to debate. The Squad in Congress and open displays of Jew-hatred on American streets and campuses has given many American Jews pause. Liberal American Jews, though, are pretty much allergic to Republicans, and the idea of voting for Donald Trump would drive them into anaphylactic shock. They’re also not keen on Benyamin Netanyahu. Not because they know anything about Israeli politics. For the most part, they don’t. They just know that Netanyahu is “right wing” and that Israel’s equivalent to the New York Times, Ha’aretz, hates him.
Consequently, while many American Jews have been reevaluating their relationship with progressive politics since October 7th, it wouldn’t take much to nudge them back into the Democratic fold. I think that was the real point of Chuck Schumer’s speech in the well of the Senate, castigating Netanyahu and virtually demanding that his “extremist” coalition partners, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben G’vir be cashiered if Israel expects to continue to receive American aid in this war.
Schumer wants Democratic Jews to know that it’s still safe to vote for Biden, that the President’s criticism of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s handling of the war means he’s thinking of Israel’s best interests, not thinking about how voters in Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar’s districts in Michigan and Minnesota will be voting this November. If they aren’t convinced, President Biden may be facing a perfect storm of financial unease among Americans in general and disaffection from the Democrats by some key ethnic groups in particular.
Am I the only person that finds it _________ (ironic, amazing, un-freakin-believable) that the group most ardent about the defense of Israel—redneck, evangelical, Trumpers—is also the most diametrically opposed politically to average Jewish voters? The antisemitism in the Democratic Party, and on most college campi, is so rank it’s utterly baffling to me how the Jewish vote is not at least up for grabs.
Unfortunately whichever side of the political spectrum and whoever you are we are all going to get it. Some may think they are winning after the next election but in the end we are all getting dic……..
